TOP 10 HEAVYWEIGHT FIGHTERS ACCORDING TO CHRIS FRIES
1.Fedor Emelianenko – Why? Are you kidding me?! Do I really have to give a reason? Granted, he’s not great at every aspect of MMA, but he’s really good at just about everything. No one else can say that.
2.Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira – Why? He’s beaten every significant heavyweight with the notable exception of #1 and is THE BEST heavyweight submission fighter on the planet.
3.Josh Barnett – Why? He’s simply a winner. Aside from his Achilles heel of not beating Cro Cop and Nogueira, he’s a phenom. Now wouldn’t a fight with him and Fedor be interesting? I think that would be a better match up than Couture vs Fedor, and I think deep down, you MMA fans know it too.
4.Andrei Arlovski – Why? I think there’s a big drop off from #3 to #4, but Andrei justifies this spot, and seems “born again” since his Tim Sylvia collapse.
5.Fabricio Werdum – Why? Not the most exciting or dynamic fighter, but there’s no denying the man has skills. Or should I say “skeelz”.
6.Randy Couture – Why? Here’s another drop off into #6 in my opinion. Taking nothing away from the charismatic and very popular Couture, he’s beaten Gonzaga and Sylvia at heavyweight – yes, but those fighters are a little over-rated if you ask me. But hey, who else do you expect me to put here?
7.Antonio Silva – Why? His reputation took a bit of a hit with the steroid suspension, but the Brazilian Bigfoot is still one of the best up and coming heavyweights around. He’s got the quickness of a middleweight within the body of a heavyweight monster. This is what UFC lightweight fighter, Clay Guida would be like if he were a heavyweight.
8.Alistair Overeem – Why? Consistency has never been Alistair’s strong suit. He’d look great in one fight, but lousy in another. Now the Strikeforce heavyweight champion is riding a nice little win streak and his upcoming fight with Cro Cop in DREAM 6 will determine whether he should move up or even be in this list.
9.Sergei Kharitonov – Why? You may be thinking, “Hey, he beat Alistair in his last fight!” True, but that was over a year ago. He has also lost to Overeem in his career. Sergei has been out of the lime light for a while, but that only hurts him a little in this ranking. He’s still one of the best to ever mix it up. He’s a highly underrated fighter that will soon leap back into the forefront of MMA once again, and his first test will be kickboxing monster, Mighty Mo Siliga in DREAM 6.
10.Cain Velasquez – Why? I can already hear the screams from disgruntled Gabriel Gonzaga, Tim Sylvia, Frank Mir, Aleksander Elelianenko, maybe Ben Rothwell, even the last couple of Cro Cop fans still out there who think one of those fighters deserves this last spot, but as I said before Gonzaga and Sylvia have never overly impressed me. Aleksander is living off of his brother’s fame and Cro Cop’s day in the sun has clearly set. Although, if Cro Cop beats Alistair in the upcoming DREAM 6, I will print an immediate retraction. Frank Mir was also considered, but I need to see more than the victory over an overly-hyped Brock Lesnar to warrant top 10 consideration. I’m saving this last spot to put MMA fans on notice. Remember this name, Cain Velasquez. We talked to Javier Mendez, the trainer for American Kickboxing Academy , and he couldn’t stop talking about this kid Cain Velasquez. And we didn’t even bring him up! Mind you, that conversation was almost 2 years ago. Javier’s been grooming this kid, and he has really made a nice splash in the UFC. My placement of Cain isn’t based on his competition, because he hasn’t had much. Although, he’s 4-0 with for 4 KOs and no one getting out of the first round with him. I’m rating him 10th because I think we’re all looking at the future UFC heavyweight champ. Yeah, maybe I’m jumping the gun and misusing the purpose of the top 10, but hey, it’s my list! You can go ahead and put Aleksander or Cro Cop in your top 10.
TOP 10 HEAVYWEIGHT FIGHTERS - ACCORDING TO THE JDH
1) Fedor Emelianenko (28 – 1) He’s Fedor... come on, he’s #1 until someone can beat him.
2) Antonio Rodrigo Noguera (31 – 4 – 1) Can beat anyone... other than Fedor.
3) Josh Barnett (26 – 5) He is 1 – 1 vs. Noguera and hasn’t fought Fedor yet. Affliction will do wonders for his popularity in the US and will give him a chance to fight Arlovski and hopefully Fedor.
4) Randy Couture (16 – 8) A legend in MMA… possibly an inflated position in the Heavyweight top 10. Randy will have a very tough task in his upcoming fight with Brock Lesnar.
5) Andrei Arlovski (13 – 5) Andrei has been looking great and seems to have finally gotten passed the funk he was in after being knocked out by Tim Sylvia. He was dynamic in his victory over Rothwell, hopefully this will continue.
6) Fabricio Werdum (11 – 3 – 1) His victories over Gonzaga and Vera show he’s on the right track and is guaranteed a title shot in his UFC contract. Let’s hope he brings some of the excitement he had in PrideFC into the UFC!
7) Sergei Kharitonov (13 – 3) Great to have him back in MMA after nearly a year off, will make an immediate impact in the Heavyweight division. To good of a fighter to not be fighting top competition.
8) Alistair Overeem (28 – 11) Win or lose, Alistair is one of the most exciting Heavyweights not signed to the UFC or Affliction. Has been inconsistent, but looks to be changing that with his upcoming fight with Cro Cop.
9) Antonio Silva (11 – 1) The “Brazilian Big Foot” is for real and needs to fight better opponents than EliteXC has to offer to show the MMA world his ability.
10) Frank Mir (11 – 3) Amazing Jui Jitsu. Frank showed unbelievable composure in his submission victory over Brock Lesnar. Looking forward to his fight with Noguera.
**11) Alexander Emelianenko (10 – 3)
**12) Tim Sylvia (24 – 5)
**13) Mirco “Cro Cop” Filipovic (26 – 6 – 2)
**14) Brock Lesnar (2 – 1)
seems like they forgot to add the "Dr. MMA's" TOP 10 of HW's
1. Fedor Emelianenko
2. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
3. Andrei Arlovski
4. Josh Barnett
5. Fabricio Werdum
6. Tim Sylvia
7. Gabriel Gonzaga
8. Mirko "Cro-Cop" Filipovic
9. Aleksander Emelianenko
10. Cheick Kongo
Why isn't Randy Couture in the TOP 10? I "Dr. MMA" dropped Randy Couture for inactivity of 365 days or longer.
To be in Dr. MMA's Top 10. A Fighter must fight & defeat a TOP 10 fighter at least once a year (365 days) to remain in my TOP 10.
If a Fighter is suspended for testing positive for drugs. I will drop that fighter from my rankings as well.
IF Fedor fought bunch of HW's that are not even in the 25. I would of dropped him from #1.
I think that some fighters after being #1, they think that they don't need to fight TOP 10 competition anymore. WRONG !. Example: Takanori Gomi better start fighting TOP 10 or even TOP 15 competition or else I'll drop him from #2 as well.
THE JDH said to send "hate" e-mails to me if don't my rankigns. So here it is drmma618@gmail.com
