Evan was a pioneer to this sport. He will be deeply missed! I hope you found the peace you were looking for champ... May he rest in paradise!!! My prayers to his family & friends!
I have been reading Evan's blogs on spike and his website for months now. I have been following his life through his thoughts and his reports constantly. I have been through alot in my life and he was a HUGE inspiration to me. I sent him encouragement whenever I thought about it. I even prayed for him after the Grove fight and reading of his plans to take this trip on his bike. I was surprised and delighted when he answered my messages back.
What a great man.
He was a role model and inspiration to me. He had such patience and perseverance. I am sad that I won't be able to watch him move into a new chapter of his life. I was hoping that he might raise up other fighters and become a trainer or something.
Although I didn't really know him, I terribly sad. What a great loss. As amazing of a person he seemed to be, I know his friends and family are hurting so badly right now. My prayers are with them.
EVAN TANNER WAS A PIONEER AND A TRUE FREE SPIRIT. HE IS ONE OF THE FIGHTERS I REMEMBER THE MOST IN THE PRE-ZUFFA ERA OF THE UFC. I NEVER KNEW HOW A PERSON CAN BECOME A FULL CONTACT FIGHTER, COMPETE AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL, AND EVEN WIN THE MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BELT FROM NOT HAVING A FIGHTING BACKGROUND AND JUST WATCHING BJJ AND GRAPPLING VIDEOS ON VHS. HE IS TRULY AN INSPIRATION AND A TESTAMENT TO THE OLD ADAGE OF "HARD WORK PAYS OFF."
It's definately a sad day in the MMA world. Last year we lost Jeremy Willimas & now this. Evan Tanner seemed to be a very gracious person. Kinda like a Matt Horwich without the Bible. My thoughts & prayers go out to his family.
I'm still in shock. When I heard about this last night, it was pretty upsetting. Although, I never met the man personally, he was a big inspiration to me. The world needs more people like Evan.
My thoughts & prayers are with Tanner's family.
The MMA world lost Ryan Bennett in 2006, Last year we lost Jeremy Williams, and now Evan Tanner.
R.I.P. Champ. To me once a champ, always a champ in my book
